My name is Michelle Yates. I am writing because I am moving to Chicago at the end of July. I am seeking to live in a cooperative or intentional community. I am 32 years old, recently finished my Ph.D. in Cultural Studies from UC Davis. I have accepted a lecturer position in Cultural Studies at Columbia College. My academic work looks at how the ecological is intimately connected to the political, economic, and cultural aspects of American social life. I lived in a student housing cooperative in Davis, California for three years, the Domes, which boast 14 round houses (very unique structures). I am committed to a sustainable lifestyle to the best of my ability. I love to garden, hula hoop, dance parties, afternoon tea, tarot readings, and cooking with others. I’m vegetarian, and have been since I was 16. I’m very involved in my community. For example, I directed the Davis Feminist Film Festival for two years where I live now, and also produced two productions of The Vagina Monologues. I have two loving and sweet kitties, very cuddly and friendly, who would love to live with me (and you too). Both are 9 years old. One is an outdoor adventurer, and the other is a self-chosen mostly indoor cat.
