See ya'll tonight!
Hi team,
1) As agreed at the meeting today, we need a one-page writeup of what we do, with some elevator pitch goodness in it. So check it:
http://net2chicago.wikispaces.com/
It's an open page, so modify to your little heart's content. Please create accounts as it makes it easier to see who's writing what. Then I'll roll back all the people I disagree with. Bwah ha ha! No, really, do what you like with this. I like wikispaces for hosting this sort of thing (it's free and easy). For now, I think we need exactly one page, but it'll also expand as needed if we want to grow it. I personally find that wikis are usually All Sizzle, No Steak so I'm loathe to introduce one here least it become yet another empty, overhyped "community" site. So please, don't think of it as a wiki. Think of it as a quick-and-simple one page site that doesn't require you to eff around with HTML and FTP.
2) Somewhat related: I want more structure to Net Tuesdays. I really would like to put some co-convener smack down on future meetings, as we talking about format for a good 30 minutes today, and it sorta sucked. We had a good discussion though, and I think we have some good ideas on the surface -- now let's act on it. We can start by putting out an agenda, having a steely-eyed and time-obsessed moderator for each meeting, inviting speakers, hyping the events, that sort of thing. Some people will bail out, but more will come.
3) Also, we have to come up with names for stuff. Pimp My Nonprofit isn't going to fly, because pimps are assholes. But I like Soup Up My Org. I was playing with name ideas in the nerd-girl-becomes-princess-makeover-montage vein, but let's face it - if we're that, it's in reverse.
Also, I LOVE the take an org to lunch idea, which I think is a better format for actual information exchange. Since this is pretty much a way to do a probono consulting gig despite being a busy, overcommitted professional, I propose we call it "It's Just Geek Lunch" (like the dating service, but geekier) which will probably get us sued some day, but I like it anyway. We'd also talking about "office hours" which is the same idea over the phone, but I really like the face-to-face element, and a little advance scheduling is probably a good thing.
It's late. Take a look at the page I wrote, and report back to the group.
Cheers,
Jonathan
I'm sad I wasn't able to make it, and I look forward to us getting
more organized since our meetings have been so popular, and will only
get more awesome!

Oh, look at that. Yeah, we should merge these. Perhaps someone fluent in mediawiki markup can port my proposed content over to
http://accesschicago.org/Net2/index.php?title=Main_Page#About_the_Chicago_Net2_Group
and we can proceed from there?
Cheers,
Jonathan
I prefer wikispaces. I really can't use mediawiki. I just have better things to do that to markup tables by hand. Wikispaces has a pretty good WYSIWYG-lite engine, and is overall I find it very easy to use. And you can edit the wiki markup directly if you really want to.
