A classic car show will be a new feature as Deerfield's annual Fall
Fest celebrates its 30th year.

Held this Sunday from noon to five p.m., the Fall Fest will take place
at the Historic Village at Deerfield Road and Kiplng Place.

Admission is free.

As always, the day's events will include tours of the five buildings in
the village, including the 19th century school house and the Caspar Ott
Log House, built in 1837, and the oldest still standing building in
Lake County.

The day will also feature pioneer craft demonstrations, a raffle, a
used book sale and the sale of refreshments, including hotdogs,
bratwurst, corn, ice cream, and soda.

The Fest is being organized by The Deerfield Area Historical Society,
said Sally Brickman one of the members of the group, who said it is in
need of a boost of new blood.

"We are in desperate need of volunteers. We really need members,"
Brickman said.

Profits from the sale of items at the shop and the book sale will go
toward the society's mission of restoring the six historic buildings in
the village.

The society has also been restoring a barn that had been at the site of
the Deep Dene home, now torn down. The barn is now located next to
Caruso Middle School just off the tollway.

"It is looking good. It has a new roof and a new stucco exterior, and
new windows. It is waiting for a paint job," said society president Tom
Roth, an architect, of the barn.

The Fall Fest will also include four musical acts, including the
Battlefield Balladeers, The Deerfield Community Concert Band, the
Hummers & Strummers, and the Big Band Sound of Deerfield.

Also scheduled will be the naming of the recipients of the Linda
Coleman Fourth Grade History Award and the 19th annual Deerfield Area
restoration awards.

Since its inception, more than 150 Deerfield area homes and buildings
have been nominated for the award, Roth said.
