Hi Rosi
Two weeks ago Jonathan and Isaac walked into a Mobile, Alabama Border Patrol office demanding answers. Both were arrested and transferred to an immigration detention center in Louisiana. They spent the last two weeks there talking to other detainees, finding stories of others detained and making friends.
On Wednesday we got the call from ICE, both would be released pending payment of a $5,000 bond each for a total of $10,000. We expected as much, after all we know when the camera's aren't watching this is exactly how immigrants are treated.
Donate $25 to the Undocumented Bail Fund
An hour later we got another call, ICE said they would instead be releasing both Jonathan and Isaac.
ICE's change in policy doesn't come out of the kindness of their heart. Isaac was initially scheduled to appear before an immigration judge today. At the end of the day ICE caved and let them go because of your work. Because of your support ICE let these two go.
Help us raise bond money by donating $25 to the Undocumented Bail Fund
This action happened to show you that the only thing we have to be afraid of is ourselves. ICE and other authorities may want to harm us but if we prepare ourselves and our communities to respond then we can be invincible. In this action we managed to get our youth into a detention center, and out all the same. It wasn't ICE doing it to us, but us doing it to them.
How does it feel going on the offensive?
We can only do this work because of support from people like you. If you like what we do consider making a $25 donation to our undocumented bail fund. We are currently tapped out as we spent just over $8,000 on getting people out of Alabama jails and could really use your support.
Much love,
