DEFEND PUBLIC SERVICES

Meanwhile, the services that ordinary people depend upon for their very survival are cut to the bone and ordinary working people are told that sacrifice is the only option. Our politicians tell us there is no money to keep public hospitals and clinics open for uninsured patients; no money to hire more public school teachers so we can lower class sizes; no money to provide improvements to our public transit system; no money for public universities; no money for services for the elderly, sick, or poor. In short, no money for ordinary people's needs. In Chicago, Rahm Emmanuel has made clear that his billionaire backers will continue to profit, but city workers should get ready to pay. Teachers in particular have been singled out for abuse by our new mayor. The new Cook County Board President Toni Preckwinkle is demanding deep cuts in our public health system that will endanger patient care. The State of Illinois lurches towards yet another budget crisis of historic proportions, with cutbacks in social services sold as the "only solution." The money to fully fund public services is there, and the corporations paying out huge bonuses to their executives know it. Join us for this forum to strategize and network and with other Chicagoans who say, enough is enough—fund public services, defend public sector workers. featuring: Helen Ramirez-Odell, Chicago Teachers Union Delegate, School nurse Brenda Langford, President of National Nurses Organizing Committee Region 13, Cook County Nurse Loretta Capeheart, University Professionals of Illinois, Local 4100, Northeastern Illinois University Professsor organizations listed for identification purpose only. forum endorsed by:
