We Say NO to a U.S. attack on Syria!
5 PM, Thursday, Aug 29
Federal Plaza: Adams & Dearborn, Chicago

A U.S. attack on Syria would be like pouring gasoline on a fire -- no matter how one feels about the Assad regime and the rebels.

U.S. aggression will not help 'human rights' -- the excuse used so often for U.S. wars abroad -- but would only make a horribly violent civil war even worse, upping the cycle of bloodshed and destruction. This 'humanitarian' argument is built on hypocrisy:

  • On Monday, Foreign Affairs Magazine confirmed that the CIA cynically aided Iraq's Saddam Hussein with intel, knowing that he would use the info to launch chemical weapons attacks that killed thousands.

  • The United States and European allies had no problem using "extraordinary rendition" to kidnap people in countries abroad and deliver them to governments like Assad's Syria and Ghaddafi's Libya for torture.

  • U.S. "humanitarian" moves against Syria are being coordinated with some of the worst human rights abusers on the planet, including Saudi Arabia, Qatar and Israel.

  • The truth is that President Obama's threat of a U.S. war on Syria is an escalation of the ongoing rivalry with Russia and other powers over who gets to control the Middle East.
We must not fall for government war lies again! U.S. out of the Middle East! No to U.S. war on Syria!
