HUNGER STRIKE ENTERS 6TH DAY, DEMANDS MORATORIUM ON DEPORTATIONS
COALITION CALLS FOR "CHILDREN’S MARCH TO WASHINGTON D.C.
BEGINS COMMUNITY PLEDGE DRIVE
Father Jose Landeverde will begin his 6 day on hunger strike on
Tuesday as the "Chain of Pastors" Hunger Strike moves to the 26th
Street Mission site demanding a moratorium on deportations from
President Obama.
Joined by Familia Latina Unida President Emma Lozano and other
community leaders, the coalition will announce a drive to send one
thousand U.S. citizen children to Washington D.C. to demand a
moratorium on deportations against their undocumented parents.
Prayers will be held at 12 noon and 6 p.m. every day at the Mission
during the hunger strike.
Families facing deportation with U.s. citizen children are invited to
come and join the children’s campaign. Others are invited to sponsor a
child’s trip to Washington D.C. to meet with President Obama on July
28th.
Landeverde has taken over a 32 day hunger strike from his predecessor
and "will go as long as the doctors will permit me." Other pastors are
waiting to take up hunger strike when Landaverde cannot go further.
