Dear Friends,
You are coordinately invited to Undocumented Resilient & Organized (URO)'s (a Northeastern Illinois University Club) Spring Celebration and Speak Out Event.
This is a four hour informal outdoors event where [un]documented students and the NEIU
community will come together to share stories, testimonies, poetry, and more.
As a newly formed group URO has overcome some of the many barriers in the
organizing process at NEIU. Now as the semester ends, we want to share with
others at a personal level who we are and where we come from.
WHAT: An outdoor gathering entitled; "With or
Without Papers Come and Celebrate Our Stories"
WHEN: Tuesday, April 17th starting at 12pm
(12-4pm)
WHERE: University Commons Area, Outside and in
between the FA,SU,LIB Buildings.
5498 N. St. Louis Ave,
Chicago IL 60625
WHO: URO, NEIU students and Clubs, Community Activists, and Friends!
Free Food and Music will be provided.
In addition of being a celebration and a sharing
event, our event seeks to stress the significance of students’ voices and
critiques. “Speaking Out” is a form of empowerment, awareness, and the
beginning of a unified collective voice.
We have been told that
NEIU is a diverse institution, thus we embark in the struggle for equity and
representation at NEIU. We believe access to education and resources should be
of equity to all students, not necessarily based on citizenship or
legal residency status.
We value education and
seek for a more productive society. Through educational means we as students
begin a critical analysis and the conversation of becoming a true
representative and equity institution that begins to respond to students’ voices
and begins the work for change, (with or without papers).
