United Protest on the
8th Anniversary
Of the U.S. Invasion
of Iraq
** Please circulate widely **
The undersigned Chicago-area groups have reached agreement
to organize a mass, permitted march in the city on the 8th anniversary
of the U.S. invasion of Iraq, Saturday, March 19th.
We intend to link the devastating impact of the U.S. wars on
peoples abroad to the attacks on people at home, as President Obama and
Congress pass record military budgets while attacking public sector workers and
demanding cuts in funding for schools, housing and other basic needs. As the mass uprisings against the Egyptian,
Tunisian and Yemeni dictatorships show, U.S. military support for Israel, Arab
dictatorships and the Palestinian Authority is directly at odds with the wishes
of the overwhelming majority of the peoples of the region.
Organizing of the
March 19th march of course does not preclude the organizing of other activities
on or about that date – in fact we encourage the organizing of such activities.
An open meeting to begin organizing the march, and perhaps
other associated activities, will be at 10 AM this Saturday, February 5 at the offices of
the 8th
Day Center for Justice, 205 W. Monroe Street, 5th floor, Chicago
(wheelchair accessible). Due to security arrangements for the building,
please do not arrive before 9:45 AM or after 10:15 AM (if you absolutely cannot
arrive before 10:15 AM, you will have to call someone to be let into the
building).
We invite you to come and share your ideas and energy to
building a more effective movement against America's wars.
