Espero nos puedan acompañar en la conferencia de prensa a las 11an en las oficinas de los republicanos. Hasta estos momentos casi 5 de la tarde, 5 jovenes han sido arrestados en las oficinas de los senadores federales. Entre ellos esta mi hija Ireri Unzueta junto con sus compañeros Lulu Martinez, David Morales, Jesus Morales y Uriel Sanchez.

Local Elected Officials, Students, Community Leaders, Immigrant Advocates will Join in Solidarity

Call for the passage of the DREAM Act; highlight the urgency for comprehensive reform; Urge Congressman Mark Kirk to stand in support of students

 

WHAT: Press conference in support of the courageous Chicago undocumented students that were arrested earlier today after their sit-ins at various Congressional offices in D.C.

 

Local immigrant leaders, elected officials, students and teachers will gather to voice their support for the students and to call Congress to move on the DREAM Act, as well as to urge for comprehensive solutions to fix the broken immigration system.

 

Participants will call on Congressman Kirk to co-sponsor the DREAM Act and will urge him to publicly announce where he stands on this issue.

 

Following the press conference, a delegation will deliver a letter to Congressman Kirk at the office of the Illinois Republican Party.

  

WHEN: Wednesday, July 21, 2010 at 11:00 a.m.

 

WHERE:  205 W. Randolph St. (outside of the Illinois Republican Party offices)

 

WHO: Local Elected officials; immigrant advocates of the Illinois Coalition for Immigrant and Refugee Rights (ICIRR) and Latinos Progresando; students, teachers and leaders from diverse organizations across Chicago and suburbs.

  

VISUALS: Delivery of letter to the Illinois Republican Party office addressed to Congressman Mark Kirk, urging him to co-sponsor the DREAM Act.
