Hey everyone --

I just wanted to let you know about an opportunity that some of you may be interested in. My day job is working for 90.5 FM WRTE Radio Arte Chicago, a bilingual community radio station that focuses on youth training and community media. The programs that the participants in the training program include two shows on immigration: First Voice: Without Borders, and Sin Papeles, which are broadcasted on Radio Arte.

One year Training Program (16-24)

Radio Arte offers a one-year, cost-free, training program in journalism, digital media, and community radio. The program is divided in to 3 parts comprised of workshops, live participation in on-air public affairs programs, and individual projects focused on community media.

Throughout the year we offer two opportunities for training. Youth ages 16-20 begin classes in November, and youth 19-24 participate in classes in February (19-20 year old can chose which program they would like to participate in). Participants are expected to commit to a schedule of Tuesdays and Thursdays (in English) or Mondays and Wednesdays (in Spanish), from 5:00 – 7:30 pm.

Applications for 19-24 cohort are due January 22nd, and the class is set to begin on February 22nd, 2010. Check back for updates on future deadlines and details on schedule of other classes.

Entrenamiento intensivo de un año (16-24)

Radio Arte ofrece un programa, gratuito, en periodismo, radio comunitario y medios digitales. El programa se divide en 3 etapas, las cuales incluyen clases y talleres, participación en l0s programas comunitarios al aire, y proyectos individuales basados en los medios comunitarios y medios digitales.

Durante el año se ofrecen dos oportunidades para participar en este entrenamiento. Jóvenes entre las edades de 16 a 20 años comienzan clases en Noviembre, y los de 17 a 24 comienzan en Febrero. Los participantes deberan estar listos para comprometerse a un horario de Lunes y Miércoles (en Español) y Martes y Jueves (en Ingles), de 5:00 – 7:30 pm.

Las aplicaciones para la clase de 19 a 24 años, se deben de entregar antes del 22 de enero, y la clase comienza el 22 de febrero, 2010.
