May Day 2010 ~ International Labor Day

History of May Day

Celebrated everywhere in the world but the United States, May 1st is
known as International Labor Day to commemorate the martyrs of
Haymarket. The first May Day was celebrated 120 years ago. Today, May
Day celebrates the rights of workers to organize, peaceably assemble,
fight for just pay and better working conditions. Coordinating workers
from around the world to work together cooperatively for Peace and
Justice, May Day today is symbolized in the struggle of immigrant
workers to forge a better life in their new country.
