On Sunday, March 14th while Bissell is presenting its latest products at the International Homewares Show in Chicago, Clergy, community leaders, warehouse workers and their supporters will gather to protest the unfair firing of 70 Bissell warehouse workers.
In November workers at the
Bissell warehouse in Elwood, IL arrived at work only to be informed that all of them were being fired. Their crime? They had filed complaints against their employer for violating state and federal labor laws.
They faced a year of disrespect, paying women as much as $2.50 less than men for the same work, discrimination of pregnant women, threats of retaliation from management for filing charges and some workers even made LESS than minimum wage.
Local Clergy and community leaders are coming together to tell Bissell that we will not support a company that treats people like trash. Come tell Bissell to put people back to work and to follow the law.
