PANEL: New Voices in the Fight for Legalization for ALL

Thursday, April 15, 2010 @ 7:00pm - 9:30pm

Casa Aztlán, 1831 S. Racine Ave., 2nd floor, Pilsen, Chicago.

Panel with emerging leaders and commentators of the immigrant rights movement putting forward their perspectives for the building of a democratic and militant movement for the legalization of ALL undocumented persons.

In the recent weeks, the immigrant rights movement has challenged the indifference of the politicians and has mobilized large numbers of people, pushing for legalization, a halt to raids and deportations, family reunification and a moratorium to the E-Verify.

This spike in activity and militancy has been mainly lead by youth, who tired of living in the shadows have decide to come out and fight back. Through victories in stalling the deportations of some students and in forcing politicians to pay attention to them, they have offered a way forward for the movement. From this panel, and from the discussion floor, we will hear some of these voices…

Panelists*:

•Stephanie Manríquez: Casa Aztlán and writer for Revista Contratiempo

•José Herrera: The Justice Mission and Immigrant Youth Justice League

•Kenneth Barrios: IYJL and International Socialist Organization

* Organizations listed for reference purposes only. Other panelists have been invited and the panel is still open to them.

Endorsed by Casa Aztlán, Chicago Community and Workers Rights, Comite 10 de Marzo, Immigrant Youth Justice League, International Socialist Organization, Movimiento Cultural Latino Americano, and The Justice Mission.
