Chicago IL- A group of undocumented students have organized themselves at Northeastern Illinois University, the only public university federally designated as a Hispanic Serving Institute in Illinois, (
HACA analysis 2010-11). The students formed an organization on campus called Undocumented Resilient & Organized who organized around the following five points of unity. 1.)Building a community of support among undocumented undocumented students at NEIU. 2.)Creating awareness about issues affecting
undocumented students and students of mixed-status families. 3.)This includes
educating administration, faculty, staff and students.
Mentoring undocumented high school students as
they transition to higher education.
4.)Building bridges among other student
organizations on and off campus.
5.)Expanding financial resources available to
undocumented students through: fundraisers, new scholarships, and other
incentives.

Undocumented Resilient and Organized (URO) is a new club at
Northeastern Illinois University. Visions for this club began in the Fall 2011
semester, where a group of students felt the need to come together to share
their experiences as undocumented students struggling to be successful at NEIU.
