Mothers will begin a hunger strike to demand medical treatment for their family
members who are suffering fatal diseases and hospitals have denied treatment
because they do not have documents.
Our Lady of Guadalupe Anglican Catholic Mission is calling a press conference on Saturday, June 2, 2012, to voice the actions of a group of concerned mothers in support of undocumented persons who are facing fatal illnesses such as Cancer and Amyloidosis.
These mothers will begin a hunger strike to demand medical treatment for their sons. The mothers are denouncing Loyola Medical Center, University of Illinois Medical Center and Christ Hospital. These Medical Centers have denied the medical treatment to Jorge Mariscal and other immigrants for the inhumane reason of being undocumented.
This group of concerned mothers, along with Lorenzo Arroyo, who suffers from Amyloidosis, will begin a hunger strike until the medical centers agree to provide medical attention to those suffering from fatal illnesses.
Father Jose S. Landaverde says: “We are denouncing these medical centers because they are putting money above all else, even above saving people’s lives. This goes completely against God’s Will. Life is God's greatest gift, we must do all we can do as a community to preserve every gift of life”. Sonia López says: “I will be on a Hunger Strike until Loyola Medical Center provides medical attention to my son Jorge”.
We are asking for the support of all the community in order to save the lives of these people who have been condemned to die without medical attention for the simple reason of being without proper immigration documentation.
