"Obama to Push to Widen Attacks" --Wall Street Journal, 9/8/14
The United States is getting ready to bomb yet another country, this time Syria.
Monday's Wall Street Journal reported that "Obama [is] to Push to Widen
Attacks" in meetings with Congress on Tuesday, and then push further in
a speech to the nation on Wednesday, Sept. 10th.
Besides bombing Syria, the Journal reported that "The President is
widely expected to press Congress to quickly authorize his proposal last
spring for an additional $500 million to arm and train pro-Western
rebels in Syria. He will also detail his plan for a still-emerging
international coalition that he wants to include allies in Europe and
the Middle East."
Throughout the region, more than a half
century of U.S. military and diplomatic intervention has caused untold
misery to millions of people. Waves of refugees now risk death at sea
to flee a civil war in Libya escalated by President Obama's bombing
campaign a few years ago. Many thousands of political prisoners face
torture in Egyptian prisons since his support of the military coup
there. More than 2000 people died in the recent Israeli pulverizing of
Gaza as the Obama administration re-supplied munitions to Israel
mid-battle.
U.S. bombing and arms shipments to fuel the civil
wars in Syria and Iraq will once again be pouring gasoline on a raging
fire. Only a full pull-out of the U.S. from the Middle East, and
reparations for the countless horrors it has caused there, offers any
real hope for lessening the violence.
