Chicago Community Gathers for National Day of Non-Compliance With Arizona Law SB 1070
A Response to Arizona’s Law SB 1070 Enactment Decision made by United States District Court Judge Susan Bolton
What: Rally and Press conference outside Cook County Jail demanding an end to Poli-Migra practices, which is the collaboration of local enforcement with ICE officials, an end to deportations trough an executive order by president Obama and standing in solidarity with the people of Arizona.
When: Thursday, July 29th at 4:00pm
Where: 2700 S. California (Outside the Cook County Jail, Department of Corrections)
Who: Moratorium on Deportations Campaign organizers and supporters
Why: Though on Wednesday, July 28th US district Judge Susan Bolton blocked parts of Arizona's SB 1070 law, which would write into law racial profiling and has sent a wave of fear through the immigrant community, the struggle for justice for undocumented immigrant workers, families and students is far from over.
“We need to pressure law enforcement agencies that are already collaborating with these types of laws under the radar” said Mike Johnson, an organizer of the event referring to the many families that have gone through the deportation of one of its members after being brought to Cook County Jail for traffic violations. He continues “this is an act of solidarity with families, students and workers who are being intimidated by racist laws, like the one in Arizona.”
“We demand an end to Poli-Migra practices, which lets ICE officials harass our immigrant community while in custody of the Cook County Department of Corrections and eventually deport them” said Jose Herrera, member of the Immigrant Youth Justice League and himself victim of these practices, “but we also needs for president Obama to stop deportations. If the system is broken, as he says, why keep enforcing it. For a just and fair immigration reform to happen, undocumented immigrants need to be part of the debate. That will not happen as long as deportations are part of their daily reality.”
Every day, more than a thousand families are destroyed by deportations, and every day more than a thousand dreams are truncated. Organizers expect more than a thousand people to gather at the event, to show Obama and the public opinion what a thousand people look like. They hope this will show them what it is been hidden by the alleys of deportations.

4:00PM: Rally will start in front of the Cook County Jail, 2700 S. California
