Trabajadores, estudiantes, inmigrantes, líderes religiosos y activistas comunitarios expondrán la peligrosa influencia del Consejo Legislativo de Intercambio Legislativo (American Legislative Exchange Council) en los congresos estatales y comunidades en todo el país, como parte de una semana de acciones contra la agenda de las corporaciones.
(CHICAGO) Una amplia coalición de organizaciones religiosas, del medio ambiente, en contra de la violencia, estudiantes, inmigrantes y otros activistas comunitarios llevarán a cabo una protesta a mediodía el jueves 8 de agosto. Este poderoso grupo de cabildeadores ha operado tras los telones desde su fundación en Illinois en 1973, pero tiene una amplia influencia con consecuencias devastadoras. La marcha y mítin del jueves será una de varios eventos, parte de una semana de acción para llamar la atención de las acciones y la agenda de ALEC.

Hundreds to Protest Thursday Against ALEC at 40th Anniversary Conference in Chicago
Working people, students, faith leaders and community activists to expose dangerous influence of American Legislative Exchange Council in statehouses and communities across the country, part of week of action against corporate political agenda.
(CHICAGO) A broad coalition of faith, labor, environmental, anti-violence, students and other community activists will protest at noon Thursday, August 8 at the Palmer House in Chicago as the American Legislative Exchange Council (ALEC) holds their 40th annual meeting. This powerful corporate lobbying group has long operated behind closed doors since their founding in Illinois in 1973, but has a far-reaching influence with often devastating consequences. The rally and march on Thursday is one of a series of events, part of a week of action to raise awareness of ALEC’s corporate takeover agenda.ALEC model legislation includes the infamous “Stand
Your Ground” gun laws, restrictive Voter ID/voter suppression
legislation and a barrage of legislation that restricts collective
bargaining rights and access to healthcare filed in state
legislatures across the country. ALEC has produced about 1,000 such
bills – most of them written by lobbyists and executives of firms like
Exxon-Mobil, BP, Monsanto, Bank of America and Koch Industries. The
deep-pocketed corporations pick up the tab for ALEC
conferences like this week’s gathering at the Palmer House, wining and
dining state legislators who will return the favor by working to pass
ALEC’s legislation in theirs states. Hundreds are expected to rally
outside the Palmer House in Downtown.
