Theo - can forward this to people who are not on the googlegroup list. Thanks.

The meeting was chaired by Crystal and Tere from Occupy el Barrio.

1. Reports:

- Media: The press conference yesterday was excellent. Representatives from the Chicago Teachers Union, United Electrical Workers, ARISE Chicago, United Steelworkers Union of America, Jobs with Justice, Occupy El Barrio, Occupy Chicago, UIC-Graduate Students Union, Illinois labor History Society, Workers United, National Nurses United, SEIU, Coalition Against NATO/G8 and the Our Lady of Guadalupe Mission all participated. We received good news coverage and articles will be appearing in upcoming newspapers. Great job by the organizers.

Another press conference is being planned and we would like to encourage many of the other organizations who've been involved in organizing to participate: Stand-Up Chicago, UNITE HERE, UFCW, Chicago Community for Workers Rights, Albany Park Theater Project, Immigrant Youth and Justice Project and members of other unions and community groups.

- Logistics: We have a permit for the march and to hold a rally in federal plaza. The Chicago Park District is making some onerous financial demands for our Union Park permit and has us listed as a athletic event! We're following-up to rectify this and will update everyone as soon as we have more information.

- Fundraising: SEIU/Stand-Up Chicago have committed $1,000 towards the May Day March and Rally budget. A big thank-you! We are following up on other contributions from organizations involved in organizing. Fox Valley Citizens for Peace and Justice has endorsed the event and is donating $30. Thank-you. No contribution is too big or two small! If your organization can make a financial contribution email Susan at: susanm...@gmail.com

- Outreach: May Day fliers were distributed at the Chicago Teachers Delegates meeting on Wed. The Justice for Trayvon Martin event at Grace Place was fliered as well. We discussed promoting participating in the march by members of the many organizations who are supporting and participating in organizing. We will continue to contact other organizations and individuals to participate in organizing and join us on May Day. May Day organizers will announce the march and rally at non-violent civil disobedience trainings Chicago this weekend. The Occupy Chicago Rebel Arts Collective is organizing an event on April 27th with Rebel Diaz and others and will promote the march and rally alongside their event promotion: http://www.facebook.com/#!/events/276600065758272/ Organizations involved in organizing have published information about the May Day march and rally in their newsletters. We are meeting with members of the faith community to discuss mobilizing for May Day with them. We are reaching out to Rakia Boyd's family and anti-foreclosure organizing groups. We need to reach out to many more unions, immigrants rights and community organizations.

- Direct Action: There are some corporate and anti-immigrant institutions along the route where we stop at to 'mic check' and explain what they do.

- Fliers/Posters: We discussed making large numbers of fliers that people can pick up to distribute. Contact Margarito at Workers United for fliers: mad...@uicalumni.org

If your organization can make large numbers of fliers please email to say where people can pick them up. We want to bring large numbers of fliers in English and Spanish to the next organizing meeting so people can pick them up to distribute and poster neighborhoods.

If you are planning to leaflet an event or poster an neighborhood or college email the list if you'd like others to join you.

- May Day Googlegroup: we need to make sure everyone who signs up at our organizing meetings gets added to the list: Email Theo at tfigu...@nationalnursesunited.org to have people added.

- Our Next Meeting: We voted to hold our next meeting on TUESDAY April 17th at 6:30PM at the 500 W Cermak, 7th Floor (Occupy Chicago Space). Occupy Chicago Labor Working Group voted to join our committee through May Day to participate in organizing. Occupy El Barrio members are discussing joining us on Tuesday as well. Since Occupy Chicago General Assemblies are held on Wednesday evenings they can join us at Tuesday night meetings through May Day. Facebook page - invite people: http://www.facebook.com/#!/events/333892133336148/

- April 21st MAY DAY MOBILIZING MEETING: We are planning to go ahead with the event. The exact schedule is still being worked out but will include space for organizing discussions and some educational presentations. We should stick with the Noon start time because this is what we've already advertised and should only change if it clashes with another event or if everyone feels strongly that it should start at a different time.

Chicago Workers and Community Rights has offered to present on E-Verify and their organizing.
Jorge Mujica has agreed to explain what happened on May Day 2006 in Chicago and around the country.
Martinez Sutton, brother of Rakia Boyd can come on the 21st and speak at the May Day Rally.
ARISE Chicago and the Immigrant Youth and Justice League have also been invited to present on organizing they're involved in.
Armando Robles, UE Local 1100, leader of the workplace occupations at Republic Doors and Windows and Serious Materials has also been invited.

Please send ideas for April 21st to shaun...@gmail.com. We can discuss and vote on the schedule at the Tuesday meeting.

In the meantime please invite people to come: http://www.facebook.com/#!/events/145321642262639/
An email for the 21st will be available soon.

- Endorsements: If your organization is endorsing the event please email Tere: marite...@gmail.com

New Endorsement: National Association of Letter Carriers Branch 11 Chicago
