They actually live in Concepcion, near the epicenter of the earthequake. They are camping out for now, without water and electricity, but they are all fine.
One thing the media covering the earthquake in Chile is saying a lot is that Chile has very rigurous regulations for building. In general, the structures built around the time those regulations were put on place are still standing, but that is not the case with some of the newer ones, built during the heights of neoliberalism in Chile.
