Ningun ser Humano es ilegal!

During the Socialism 2010 Conference there will be a series of meetings featuring activists, organizers and journalists from around the country on the topic of immigration. 

These meetings will be an opportunity to get a national perspective on the needs and wants of the struggle for equal rights for immigrants. This is a great chance for activists to learn from each other and discuss the serious obstacles that face hard working immigrants in the U.S. today. Don't miss the opportunity to network and sharpen your politics. 


Arizona and the Fight for Immigrant Rights June 18, 11:30am: 

Featuring:
Martin Unzueta: long-time labor and immigrants' rights activist in Chicago. He is an organizer with Chicago Community and Workers Rights (CCWR).

Jorge Mujica: leading labor organizer and immigrant rights activist in Chicago since the late 1980s. He has been a key spokesperson for the March 10 movement, which has organized several important immigrant rights marches in Chicago, including the mega-marches of 2006. An accomplished journalist, Mújica publishes an opinion column titled “México del Norte”, covering immigration issues, in bilingual and Spanish language newspapers in several countries, mainly México and the United States.

Orlando Sepúlveda 

fought Pinochet's dictatorship as a high school and college student in the 1980's in Chile. He moved to the United states some twelve years ago and is an activist in the immigrant rights movement in Chicago and a regular writer on immigration issues.



Youths Organizing for Immigrants' Justice June 19, 2:00pm 

Featuring: 
Jose Herrera: Youth organizer with the Immigrant Youth Justice League and the Justice Mission. He has been a key activist in the Student participation for March 10th Coming out of the Shadows National Day, and the mass marches in Washington on March 21st and Chicago on May 1, 2010. 

Carmela Garcia: Student activist at Northeastern Illinois University. Organizer for the campus based Movimiento Cultural Latinoamericano (MCLA). She had a leading role in mobilizing students for Chciago's Mayday Marches in 2010. 

Mario Cardenas: Chicago activist and youth organizer for the Immigrant Youth Justice League. He participated in student lead mobilizations to successfully stop the deportation of a UIC student. And continues to build a grassroots organization to Stop Deportations. 

Capitalism, Borders, and Migration June 19, 4:00pm

Featuring: 
Nativo López: leading immigrant rights activist in Southern California. Lopez is the president of the Mexican American Political Association and the new General Brotherhood of Workers International Union. 

Bridget Broderick: long-time Chicago based activist and writer. Bridget was a organizer for the march 10th committee during the mega marches of 2006. 

All meetings and workshops will be held at the Palmer Hilton Hotel in the Chicago Loop, 17 E Monroe St.
