Host a National Health Corps Chicago AmeriCorps Member

Host an AmeriCorps Member with National Health Corps Chicago – Apply Now!

Are you seeking to expand your community public health services?

An opportunity is available to partner with Public Health Institute of Metropolitan Chicago (PHIMC) to increase capacity for your organization and break down barriers for members of the communities you serve through hosting a National Health Corps (NHC) Chicago AmeriCorps Member.

Please consider applying, and reach out with any questions you may have along the way.

Why host an NHC Chicago AmeriCorps member?

NHC Chicago members produce significant and unique contributions that enhance host sites’ efforts to address social determinants of health and underlying structural oppression that may not otherwise be possible due to a lack of adequate funding, staffing, and resources.

Where do our partners and NHC Chicago members currently serve?

Below is a map of where our NHC Chicago AmeriCorps members currently serve.

·     Advocate Children’s Hospital: Park Ridge and Oak Lawn

·     Legal Council for Health Justice: Chicago Loop

·     Advocate Trinity Hospital: Calumet Heights

·     Erie Family Health Centers: Humboldt Park, Amundsen High School, Roberto Clemente Community Academy, and Lake View High School

·     Tapestry 360 Health: Wilson, Lincoln Square, Devon, Nicholas Senn High School, Theodore Roosevelt High School, and Sullivan High School

Benefits of hosting an AmeriCorps member include:

·     Up to 11 months with a consistent member who has a strong skillset to increase organizational capacity to address critical needs in the Chicagoland area.

·     Support for host site supervisors and ongoing technical assistance from PHIMC program staff.

·     Networking and collaboration opportunities with other host site organizations.

·     Member training and professional development from PHIMC program staff and outside experts, including motivational interviewing, trauma informed care, conflict resolution, and communication skill building.

Lacey Johnson, Senior Manager of Care Coordination and Navigation Services at Erie Family Health Centers and NHC Chicago Alum; Tara Burke, NHC Chicago Member at Erie Family Health Centers; and Alisha Jani, Program Manager for AmeriCorps and Workforce Development at PHIMC.

“Serving as a host site supervisor for NHC Chicago and as an alum is such a rewarding experience! It’s wonderful to be able to host an AmeriCorps member for 10.5 months and provide training and professional development in a public health setting. AmeriCorps members bring vital services to communities in Chicago and exceptional care to Erie patients. Our service year members provide care, education, and navigation to hundreds of patients each year. As a former NHC Chicago alum, I understand the impact and importance of serving as an AmeriCorps member and I love being able to help support and mentor our next generation of AmeriCorps volunteers and public health professionals…”

-Lacey Johnson, Senior Manager of Care Coordination and Navigation Services at Erie Family Health Centers

Tanéha assisted her host site, Tapestry 360, with health center enrollment and compliance, dental care, sexual education, and nutrition and exercise education. By connecting with students, Tanéha helped increase the capacity of her host site to provide health care and education to even more students.

Host site applications will be accepted on a rolling basis until filled.
