PHIMC’s 2026 Youth Health Summits aim to engage young people and their champions on the West and South Sides of Chicago in strategy conversations around
health-related topics including, but not limited to, substance use, mental health, LGBTQIA+ health, housing insecurities, violence prevention, and justice involvement.
|
|
|
This summit includes a keynote presentation, workshops, a community resource fair, and lunch for all participants. Some of the workshops offered include:

Being a Student Leader in Mental Health

Erika’s Lighthouse
Discover how to break the stigma through student-led Empowerment Clubs and hands-on activities like the Positivity Pledge.
You will gain practical tools and ideas to promote good mental health and find out how to build a school culture where no one feels alone. Learn how to protect your peace, support your peers, and
use your voice to create a future where mental health is a priority for everyone.

Seeing the Unseen: Teen Mental Health Red Flags

Identify Early Warning Signs:
Participants will be able to recognize common mental health red flags in themselves and peers.
Apply Crisis Response Strategies:
Participants will be able to demonstrate appropriate steps to respond safely and effectively in a mental health crisis.
Access and Utilize Support Resources: Participants will be able to locate and utilize mental health resources and support
networks to provide help and promote well-being.

Is BAE Toxic or Nah? How to spot a healthy versus unhealthy relationship

Participants will distinguish between healthy, unhealthy, and abusive behaviors by analyzing real-world scenarios and media examples.
Demonstrate Boundary-Setting Skills:
Participants will practice assertive communication and boundary-setting techniques through interactive role-play exercises to navigate dating conflicts effectively.
Access to Local Support Systems:
Participants will be able to identify and connect with at least three local resources, such as Family Rescue or CPD outreach programs, for professional support and safety planning.

Here, you can access free legal and re‑entry support, housing and healthcare guidance, job readiness and placement resources, and critical public safety information. Vendors will also offer health
education and services—from Medicaid enrollment, Narcan distribution, and mental health advocacy to pediatric specialty care and sexual health and HIV prevention resources for young people. With hands-on assistance, wellness materials, and opportunities to
connect with research, employment, and ongoing community support, this fair is designed to meet you where you are and connect you to resources that make a real difference.

The 2026 Youth Health Summits are hosted on Chicago’s West and South Sides to uplift the resources, organizations, and expertise already rooted in these
communities. Hosting locally increases access for youth and highlights community strengths.
Our Purpose
To center youth voices in conversations about health, wellness, and equity by creating space for learning, connection, and action. Youth and adult allies
come together at these Summits to elevate lived experience and shape community-driven solutions.
