Update on box venues:

Maya Essence: Met Cesar at an AREA Chicago event. He thinks they want one, but said to come by. Can anyone near 4357 N. Lincoln drop in and talk to them sometime soon? Their website is www.mayaes.com

Marwen: Wants one, will make their own w/ students

Columbia Center for Book and Paper Arts: Wants one

Flaxman Library: Wants one

Pistol Bazaar: Wants one

Quimby's: Wants one

Permanent Records: Needs to check space

New Wave Coffee: Manager is into it, will give doc to owner.

Please check out the list and see if you can add to it or take care of contacting any of the venues on there who don't have someone assigned to them.

We want to get these out to neighborhoods a little further off the beaten path, too. So keep looking out for South Side and West Side venues.

I’m reattaching the document to give to venues.

Thanks,
Nell

woops! just sent out a message on a previous discussion thread about picking up a box for Flaxman.

i knew a guy who was a part of Little Black Pearl down in Bronzeville, i think. here's their mission statement:

The mission of Little Black Pearl is to create opportunities for youth and adults to deepen their creative involvement through the arts, cultivate their entrepreneurial skills and use the arts as a means for economic empowerment and community transformation.

they appear to be much more about empowerment through entrepreneurship so we will probably have to have a pretty good mission statement before we try to persuade them to have a box on their site, i think. i can at least try and get into contact with Theaster and see what he thinks about it.
