Hey Everyone,

So I've been doing a lot of research on the RepRap project, and also
heard about a local community of printers here in Chicago. My friends
and I want to build a 3D printer like the RepRap ones that can
recreate themselves (or at least 50% of themselves). Is there anyone
that can print us parts if we got together with you, and/or could
assist us into assembling our first machine? Thanks any direction for
us would be appreciated. The Makerbot Replicator seems really sweet,
but we want to print more printers with one parent printer, and our
budget is more DIY than the $1200 for the Makerbot.

Thanks for your time!
Tyler

Hey Tyler,
I've been to the reprap meetup group at Pumping Station and could maybe
have something for you.
Me and my friend, Aaron (cc'd), built a very solid Mendal the end of
last year http://www.tumblr.com/blog/sliqdesign
we hit a wall with the electronics and lost interest. If you are
interested in buying our Mendal let me know, we're looking
to sell it for a good deal.

Take a look at

I'm still trying to figure out how they got the cost so low.

Hey Tyler,

I think there are still a decent number of folks on this mailing list, but i'd be willing to help you and your friends.

I currently have two machines (prusa mendels, with ramps electronics) one is currently built and the other isn't. I've actually been thinking about getting rid of one of them since i've been pulled in some other directions and probably won't really mess with either of them until winter comes around (just got a motorcycle i've been working on).

email me at my personal email address, and we can talk about price or which direction you wanted to go. I replied to the group in case anyone else wanted to chime in with tips or recommendations(i didn't just want to hit you up with a  sales pitch)

in any event, welcome!

Andres
