So who all played in the masters at Adepticon?  Just curious.  I finished 1-2 which was my goal (figured I'd go 0-3 since I'd been out of the game so long, but hoped to be able to pull of a win).  Linh2 still surprises people with how punchy she can be and how schemey her crew can be.

I don't think alot of people got to do masters. I went to buy my ticket a few days after registration opened and everything was full up

Yea for the first time I can remember it was sold out right away. I tried to purchase a ticket the day after event opening and it was sold out. I went on the waiting list and I never received an email notifying me of an opening.

Conversely i also went on the waiting list for AOS singles championship tournament and I did get into that one and they had 170 players.

I would imagine Wyrd didn’t bring enough tables of terrain. When I ran the masters for 6 or 7 years I always had at least 40 tables of terrain. But that was brought in locally from all of us in the area versus Wyrd transporting it from Georgia.

They tried to get more tickets added but apparently Adepticon wouldn't (couldn't?) give Wyrd more space.  I will say Saturday was pretty packed in the hall.

Personally I think Adepticon has out grown the Schaumburg convention center.

I didn’t know Adepticon limited space to Wyrd. First time I heard of that happening. I figured Wyrd didn’t want to spend the money transporting the stuff from Georgia.

Locally at Games Plus, the game is dead. Most players have moved on to other game systems. It needs a new edition, not more books and more models added to the third edition.

I still like the game, mainly because of the deck system versus dice. But it needs a face lift with a new edition.

I agree they've outgrown Schaumburg, I just don't know where they would go.  They can't realistically go into the city because I think they'd actually lose a lot of attendees and Schaumburg is the biggest convention center in the area.  Maybe Rosemont?

As for the game - I've been out since M3E came out (ie, six years) - a whole bunch of us are jumping back in but will primarily be out of Grognards I think (half of the folks are south and half of us are north so Grognards is about splitting the distance).  Most of the folks have never played before and are geting in fresh, but a few of us are returning (like me).

Are you guys meeting up at Grognards on a specific night?

Grognards Roselle, potentially also up at Gift of Games (since a bunch of us are NW suburbs as well).  We haven't gotten specific yet on what night since we're still getting the new folks acclimated and figuring out what master(s) they want to start with.  Since Adepticon just finished we probably won't start playing again for a couple weeks (you know, the post-Adepticon hangover).  Right now there are, uhh, about 8 of which 3 of us have played previously with M2E and rejoining.  We're split about half and half between NW suburbs and Schaumburg and/or Naperville area so Roselle is a more central meeting point.

Definitely post here which store and when you are playing.   It is interesting to hear that Adepticon Masters sold out this year.  When I was looking online a few months ago it felt like Malifaux was mostly a dead game everywhere.  I have fond, and some stressful, memories of running those first years of Malifaux at Adepticon

Regarding terrain,  I recognized the tables as I wandered through on Friday, pretty sure they were using Sean's terrain again.

I still love the game but weeknight games were never gunna work for me being so far north.  I did pick up the new book and December model though.

Hah!  You were the Yan Lo player?  My buddy Brian (one of the crew and one of the 3 of us who played M2E) played you.  He was playing Maxine and was complaining about his Yan Lo game. ;-)  (in a good way, more of a "damn that was annoying" way).  He's on this google group too but I don't think he checks it.

If we're playing at Gift of Games that's in Grayslake if that helps you at all.

Anyone got any pics from the event, I am kinda curious about the terrain they used.    Sean inherited a lot of the terrain I made so I am curious to see if any of the stuff I built over a decade ago still survives.

I can speak for myself regarding the whooping Landon handed me :)

But all in, I think we have 8-10 who bought in over the last month or so. And I would rate several of those as likely to stick with it (one actually dug out his 1st edition stuff from when he was a henchman in Miami and then spent a mint at adepticon on top of it).

The game is growing. I don't think I recognized 75% of the players at Acon. And the Dice Dojo has 6-8 new players jumping in.

I think weeknights at G+ are just hard for a lot of people to accommodate with their schedules given the location of the store. I was able to get to the dojo last night, but not G+. There's a good amount of gaming going on in people's basements and online as well. If you want to connect with other Chicagoland players not tied to a specific store, you can join the WCW discord:

I'm going to look into running a couple of tournaments this Spring and Summer either in the city or W Suburbs. I feel like we can comfortably get 12 people at this point.

I should add that we also have a discord for our crew (had it for a while) - not that everyone needs yet another discord but if you want to coordinate across various playing areas (we're all NW/W/SW suburbs) https://discord.gg/GMEkmj6Pq9

Mainly too many abilities on the front of the cards and too many actions and triggers on the back of the cards especially for minions and enforcers. With the amount of models this game has bloated to it needs to be stream lined a bit. I also don’t care for the pass token system where crews have the ability to generate them in order to either out activate their opponent or win the next turn initiative. That whole system needs to be revamped. That’s just to name a few things. It needs a new edition. This is the longest they have gone without sone kind of reboot. It also helps to breath new life in the game when you have a new edition and everybody starts on equal footing.

I haven't done any legit tournaments yet, but at least from what I can see the game seems great still, a bit different but cleaned up from m2e (which also means less abusive fun stuff). What were your main complaints with m3e @Bret Rice ?

I'm part of the new Dice Dojo people. There's going to be a Malifaux league there starting next month.

I don't have a car, but I do live near a Metra stop on the line that goes to Mount Prospect/Games Plus.

I agree with you Bret, they streamlined some stuff, but there is a LOT of text now and comparing with m2e.
I also think their font is an issue. I've shown a normal m3e card alongside some of the promo or m2e cards and for some reason the normal m3e cards people have consistently think it's too much text, hard to read, difficult to comprehend etc... where not so much with the other variations.

Malifaux is a game where you kind of need to have a good idea what your opponent's crew does, and now it's pretty hard to do that if you haven't ever seen a crew or models due to how many and how much each model has

I'd be happy to try and make the hike to grogs roselle if we got a weekly night going again if that location makes more sense than GP. Grayslake is a bit too far for a weekday but I could make the occasional weekend game.

Waitlist was brutal, I only got to play because I showed up despite being on the waitlist and 20 minutes into reg 3 people realized they didn't have painted models to play.

Right. 2nd edition was 5 books. 3rd is core plus a trilogy. Though the YouTube ad for the new book does say it "finishes the trilogy". So it might be the signal for a new edition.

They still need to release all the models they just spoiled in ashes (which as we all know takes at least a year). So it can't be that soon?

It's less that it's an imminent announcement and more that (allegedly) it is already in design process.

Of course. I wouldn't expect a 3rd edition in the same month as the new book drops. Honestly the book was late. Usually they drop at gencon. So I would say the soonest would be gencon 2024. but they may just do a teaser year to catch up. Or they may start dropping books around adepticon. I know they were talking about alternating release dates for TOS and Malifaux at gencon/adepticon. We may be finally seeing that happen. But this is all just speculation. No insider knowledge.
