Subject: [NYC-IF] SPAG wants you!
Hi! Soon you will be hearing about our next New York IF meetup. In the
meantime, I wanted to send out some information about an exciting thing
that is happening -- SPAG <
http://www.spagmag.org/>, a magazine about
interactive fiction that's existed since 1994, is relaunching under new
editorship, namely me. I am going to make an official announcement about
this on February 2, but I wanted to tell you first because I'd love for as
many of you as possible to get involved!
Basically I am looking for two things:
- Pitches for articles about anything in or adjacent to the interactive
fiction space. This includes parser, choice, Twine, digital media and/or
literature, adventure games, etc; reviews, previews, interviews, tutorials,
features, profiles, tie-ins to other forms, personal essays if they're
good, basically anything you can think of (and especially if I haven't
thought of it already) that you can make a compelling case to tie into IF.
I am looking for both time-sensitive stuff (we're hoping to run our first
full comeback issue in March or thereabouts) and evergreen pieces, please
indicate which in the pitch.
Send them to *
spag....@gmail.com <
spag....@gmail.com>* (or to me, I
check both emails, this just helps to get things consolidated), the more
details about your pitch and why you are the one to write it the better.
NOTE WELL: I am particularly interested by pitches by new writers and those
traditionally underrepresented in games criticism. If that's you, let's
definitely talk.
- SUPER BLUE SKY: If anyone thinks they can turn around a piece by *Monday,
Feb. 2*, to be published with the relaunch announcement, I would be
absolutely thrilled silly. I currently have one piece done and tentatively
set to publish, and I may write one myself, but the more the better. (Also:
*PAYMENT!*: I am still mulling over this -- we're a volunteer magazine and
none of us are or were getting paid -- but for something this short-notice,
we can discuss.)
- If you want to get involved with SPAG more directly, let me know! We
currently have a team of people working on the magazine and we are very
much trying to have the relaunch be not a one-person show. In particularly,
if you are good at graphics or community outreach, get in touch.
Thanks! Looking forward to seeing you all again.
