Dear Supporters,
Fannie
Mae has escalated its harassment of the McClendon family. This past
Monday, Fannie Mae's lawyer and realtor accompanied three Chicago police
squad cars to the family's home to have them arrested for trespassing.
With the support of the Anti-Eviction Campaign and their neighbors, the
family remains in their home and will be going to court this afternoon
to challenge their eviction order.
While we stand with the McClendon family here in Chicago, we ask that you show your support by contacting the following Fannie Mae and FHFA officials and let them know that they need to give the McClendon family a chance to repurchase their home while they are still in it:
Elonda Crockett, Vice President of Fannie Mae, 972-773-4663
Timothy J. Mayopoylous, Presidentof Fannie Mae, 202-752-7115
Call Mel Watt, Director, Federal Housing Finance Authority, at 202-649-3001 and 202-649-3006.
Also, email Mel Wattat Officeoft...@FHFA.gov.

[Hello, my name is [your name] and I am from [organization or city]. I am calling regarding the McClendon family's home at 10008 South Peoria St in Chicago, Illinois, 60643. Prior
to passing away, Bertha McClendon was tricked into taking out a Reverse
Mortgage loan. Since she passed, her children have repeatedly offered
to repurchase their family home, but One West Bank and Fannie Mae has
refused to consider their offer. Please stop threatening this family
with arrest and negotiate with them keep them in their home. Thank You!]

This escalated harassment comes in response a roller coaster of events over the past several months. In January, Fannie Mae broke off negotiations with the McClendon family and moved forward on its eviction efforts. On February 29th, Cook County Sheriff's evicted the family from their modest South Side home.
Fortunately,
neighbors and campaign activists were able to convice the bank
realtor's to keep them in their home and they have since maintained
possession of their home to prevent it from being stripped and
vandalized. In response, Fannie Mae has escalated its harassment of
them.
The
eviction and now the threats of arrests have put the family in a dire
situation, but we believe that with your help, they can fight and they
can win.
Thank you so much for your support!
