All,
We're writing with an update about the case of the McClendon family.
Yesterday,
the family was contacted by Fannie Mae's lawyers. Even though the
eviction against members of the McClendon family is still pending,
Fannie Mae is now offering them $5,000 in relocation assistance to help
them move out of the house in 30 days.
Also, Fannie Mae is now pledging that the
McClendon's will have the option to repurchase their family home within
home seven (7) days of the property being listed by a realtor.
THIS IS A BIG DEVELOPMENT AND IT IS ALL DUE TO YOUR SUPPORT.
Indeed, this sort of new offer by Fannie Mae hardly ever happens and is only happening because of your support for the McClendon family.
It
is because hundreds of people from Chicago and around the country have
reached out to Fannie Mae that they are changing their approach to their
eviction policy to accomodate the McClendon family.
BUT, IT IS NOT WHAT THE MCCLENDON FAMILY HAS DEMANDED.
From
the beginning of this eviction case, the McClendon family has been
consistent in their demand to repurchase their family home. While this
offer gives them a chance to repurchase it, they will lose the security
of being in their home while an offer is being considered and purchase
contract finalized.
In
addition, once they move out, there will be little beyond our continued
support of the family that will keep Fannie Mae from over-charging them
to repurchase it. And there is no guarantee that they won't be evicted
by the Sheriff while moving out of their home.
The
McClendon's will be taking the next few days to decide on how to
respond to Fannie Mae's offer. In the mean time, we want to thank you
for helping to make a difference in the lives of these family members
and helping to set what we hope might be a precedent in Fannie Mae's
policies.
If
you have not already, please consider making a call to Fannie Mae
directly, adding your support to our demand that Fannie Mae stop the
McClendon family's eviction and accept their "Buy Back" offer"?
If so, please use the below call-in numbers and call script:

[Hello, my name is [your name] and I am from [organization or city]. I am calling regarding the McClendon family's home at 10008 South Peoria St in Chicago, Illinois, 60643. Prior to passing away, Bertha McClendon
was tricked into taking out a Reverse Mortgage loan. Since she passed,
her family members have repeatedly offered to repurchase their family
home, but One West Bank and Fannie Mae has refused to consider their
offer. Please stop the pending sheriff eviction via case # 2015 M1 707550 and negotiate with the McClendon family to keep them in their home. Thank You!]
