Friends and Family,
Over the past year, our organization has been in negotiations with Citibank, a bank that has been a target of our protests. This fall, these negotiations have resulted in the Campaign's first bank donated property.
This is the first property donation that has gone to the Campaign's new model of using Community Land Trusts to turn foreclosed, vacant homes into permanently affordable, democratically controlled housing. For the past several months, our volunteer rehab team, made up mostly of underemployed black men and women, has been doing a gut rehab of the home.
From the start, our goal has been to use the rehab process as an opportunity to provide our volunteers with on the job training in light construction skills and to have this property house homeless families. This holiday season, I'm seeking your support to help move this project forward.
Unfortunately, the gut rehab has been more extensive and expensive than we initially anticipated. We need help meeting the cost of materials and building supplies for the property rehab. We are also fundraising to compensate our volunteer team members.
