Hello,

I'm working with disfluencies and would like to check on which word class disfluency markers may occur more often - is there a command to retrieve the number of function words and content words within a transcript through CLAN? Also wondered if you could clarify the content_allwords_ratio and function_allwords_ratio measures from flucalc - how are these calculated?

Thanks,
Elisa

I am a bit confused, since you appear to know about/use flucalc, which does compute disfluency on content and function words as proportions. Here are the specifics from the CLAN manual -
56. Content_words_ratio: open_class_words with disfluency/total disfluencies This includes n, v, part, cop adj, adv (except adv:int which is closed) 57. Function_words_ratio:  closed_class_words with disfluency/total disfluencies This includes all items not in the content/open class, except co and on 58. Content_allwords_ratio: all content words with and without disfluency 59. Function_allwords_ratio: all function words with and without disfluency

It is quite likely that I am not interpreting your question properly. If you'd like to be clearer about what you want to do and why flucalc (with its options, which you can see also in the manual, but additionally by just typing the command 'fluclalc' in the command window), please let me know and we'll try to help.

best regards,
Nan
