CLAN to sound analyzer

Hi all,

we were trying to send several consecutive utterances that we selected/highlighted in our transcript from CLAN to PRAAT using the menu option "Send to Sound Analyzer". That works well; each of the selected utterances is sent to PRAAT and appears there as a sound object of its own. However, the objects are ordered last-first in PRAAT, meaning that the last object in the list is actually the first utterance we selected in the transcript. Is there any way to change this, either in CLAN or in PRAAT?
The reason we'd like to change this is that we want to concatenate the sound of the several consecutive utterances into one sound file. PRAAT can do this, but concatenates them in the order they appear in the object list, and this order is wrong.
Does anyone have an idea how to handle this?

I just tried Praat version 5.3.44 with latest version of CLAN and as you sent sound clips from CLAN to Praat they appear in "Praat Objects" window in the same order that you send them. The first clip you sent will be the first one from the top in the list, the second clip you sent will be in second place and so on. I have tried it on both Mac and Windows PC and I got the same results. CLAN doesn't have any way to control how Praat orders its list. Perhaps there is some option in Praat to control this. Also, make sure you are using the latest version of Praat.

thanks for your quick answer and for trying out CLAN and PRAAT. When I send single utterances to PRAAT (i.e. put my cursor before one sound bullet and select "Send to sound analyzer", then put my cursor before another sound bullet and send that utterance, etc.), it works as you describe: the last utterance sent is the last one in the PRAAT Objects window.
However, I selected several consecutive utterances (containing several sound bullets) and sent those to PRAAT all at once. Then they appear in PRAAT in the wrong order. But I now found a simple solution: instead of selecting the utterances I want to send from first to last, I select them last to first (i.e. I put my cursor after the last sound bullet I want to send and then select upwards from there). Then they appear in PRAAT in the "correct" order. I thought I might share this for other people who want to do the same.

I did not realize that you were selecting multiple bullets to send to Praat. CLAN was sending multiple bullets to Praat in a reverse order because it was the most efficient way to implement that function and we always thought that people were interested in bullets on individual bases, so bullets order was not important. Since order is important, at least in your case, I have changed CLAN to always sent bullets in the right order regardless whether you select them from top to bottom or from bottom to top. New CLAN is on childes web site.
