Hi all,

I've just had a few CHILDES/CLAN sessions with my undergraduate students. And yesterday they came with a good question which I wasn't able to answer. If we're analysing transcripts that are not of equal length (e.g., 50 vs. 80 child utterances), is there a way to tell CLAN to only include the first 50 utterances from the longer transcript in the analysis (e.g., a combo, freq or kwal search)?

Thanks!

Silke,

Yes, you can add the +z switch to most of the relevant CLAN programs to determine how many utterances and from what point in the transcript to what other point. Check out section 14.13 of other manual.
