Hello,
We are running a KWAL search on a set of over 1000 transcripts. The resulting Excel sheet generates columns for keywords from the search. That is, strings identified by the KWAL command from the search appear in columns, each on a row with the corresponding line from the transcript. The keyword columns stop at column AV. The transcript lines appear in column AW. Some transcript lines retrieved by the search do not have corresponding keyword columns.

Are we coming up against a limit on the number of columns CLAN will output to an Excel file? This seems likely, because we have run KWAL a few times, generating different numbers of results in column AW, but in each case the keywords only populate through column AV. I just want to confirm whether my hypothesis is correct.

Thank you,
Carol

What KWAL option are you using? Please provide an example of your command line.

An example command is
"kwal +d4 +s"*@z:se*" +t*CHI *.cha +r5"
BTW, we are collaborating with Tracy Preza and the command is based on the one she worked out with you in her post of July 25, 2024.
Thanks,
Carol

Hi Carol,

I was finally able to look at KWAL and you were absolutely right there was a 35 keywords limit. KWAL was designed for literal finite keywords specified with +s option. When you added the wildcard (*) character to +s option, as in "*@z:se*", you created a potential infinite number of keywords. No surprise the 35 keywords limit was easily exceeded. I have increased the keyword limit to 10000 hopefully this will be enough for what you are doing. I also hope your computer has enough memory to run this command.

New CLAN is on the web.

Leonid.
