Synchronising ELAN and CLAN together

Hello,

I am looking to synchronise ELAN and CLAN together. I want to put the transcripts on CLAN onto ELAN. Could someone assist with this please?

Hi Jeff,

From CLAN to ELAN try command chat2elan. It is harder to go from ELAN to CLAN, but you can try command elan2chat. Either way the resulting data might need to be fixed up a bit afterwards.

Hi,

I don't know how familiar are you with CLAN or ELAN. I assume you know where to download CLAN from and how to run commands in CLAN's "Commands" window. If you are not familiar with CLAN at all, then you can download CLAN manual from https://talkbank.org/0info/manuals/CLAN.pdf.

There are few constraints to chat2elan command. ELAN is time based transcript, so you need to have a bullet, i.e. timestamp, for every utterance in CHAT / CLAN file. Also, CLAN does not store media file extension in CHAT datafile, so you need to specify that too.

For example if your CHAT datafile is called "sample.cha" and the associated media file is called "sample.mp3", then command would be:

chat2elan sample.cha +e.mp3

CHAT2ELAN command will let you know if there were some utterances in your datafile that were missing bullets / timestamps.
