Hi all!

I've recently attempted using CLAN and each time I go to save a file I get an error which says "The document 'untitled' could not be saved as 'untitled'". The same occurs when I manually put ".cha" at the end of the file. CLAN will also sporadically crash when trying to save a file. I haven't used CLAN in a few months, but haven't encountered the same errors in the past. Does anyone have any insight how to fix this?

Thank you!!
Matt

Matt,
What is (1) your operating system and (2) your version/data of CLAN? Have you tried saving and giving the file a name? Are you working locally or on some network drive or connected to some Cloud service? Did you try restarting CLAN and restarting your machine and does this then still happen?

Thanks for getting back to me! My answers are below:
(1.) I'm using MacOS Ventura 13.5
(2.) My version of CLAN is V 01-Aug-2024 11:00
(3.) Yup, I've tried saving the file with a real name
(4.) I'm working locally
(5.) I've tried restarting CLAN, restarting my computer, as well as reinstalling CLAN, although the issue seems to persist

Thanks!
Matt

Matt,
This could be some kind of CLAN bug. Alternatively it could be something unique to your computer. I think that Leonid Spektor will have to get involved at this point. It may not be easy to diagnose, because we probably cannot replicate this. I would have asked you to send us a copy of the file causing the problem, but that’s not possible here, because you can’t even save the file. However, you could try creating a regular text file using some other editor and then open and edit that file in CLAN to see whether or not that problem persists in that case. Leonid may have other ideas.

Hi Matt,

The version of CLAN you have downloaded was created with the latest version of Xcode. I have just checked that the latest version of macOS Ventura is 13.6.8. I have tried to open new "Untitled" window with cmd-n and tried to save it with cmd-s on my Mac that runs Sonoma 14.6 OS. The save window that I get has "Untitled.cha" name in the "Save As:" box at the top of the save window. When I click on "Save" button the filename "Untitled.cha' is created where it is expected without any problems.

You mentioned that in your case when you save Untitled document you get "untitled" filename without .cha. Please try to update your macOS to the latest Ventura version. We don't have Ventura macOS here, so can't test it myself.

Leonid.
