Dear colleagues,

Version 11.0 of the CHIANTI database has been released. If you use the Solarsoft IDL distribution then you should perform an update, otherwise a tar file can be obtained at https://www.chiantidatabase.org/chianti_download.html. Version 11.0 of the IDL software has also been released and is available through Solarsoft or the CHIANTI download site.

CHIANTI 11.0 contains advanced ionization equilibrium models for low charge states of seven elements (C, N, O, Ne, Mg, Si and S), which represent a significant improvement especially when modeling the solar transition region.  The models include the effects of higher electron density and charge transfer on ionization and recombination rates. Full details of the new models are given in Dufresne et al. (2024, ApJ) and the CHIANTI documentation.

The advanced models have been integrated into the main CHIANTI IDL routines and users will not have to change their inputs in order to run their models. Implementation of the advanced models in the ChiantiPy software is in development.

Please let us know if you find any problems with the new release.

Best regards,

Peter Young

Hello CHIANTI team.

Im using CHIANTI 11, and I came across glitches in my own software that traces back to the hydrogenic ions.  They have been 25 levels and 25 or 24 level wgfa files for some time.

Now that Ti and Cr have been extended the elvlc files have 64 levels and the coll strs scups are there -- but I cannot see a corresponding wgfa file, which I use to get A values.

I had hoped to  interpolate or use some scaling, all but ne have the old collapsed 25 levels so unless I embark on a new set of overlap integrals.....

Are the wgfa files for Ti and Cr omitted intenionally?  or are they not there by accident.  Im running very fast shocks into type I SNR ejecta and the heavy elements and even their H-like iso sequences are possible, (with nearly no hydrogen and lots of iron) and very high temperatures.

Is there anything I can do to to help, or learn, to make a valid wfga for Ti nd Cr and perhaps upgrade other H sequences for heavy atoms like S, Ar, Ca, Ti, Cr, Fe and Ni to 36 or 64 levels?

Otherwise 11.0.0 is looking good, thank you very much!

Sincerely
Ralph

Ralph,

We have calculated the whole H and He like sequences up to n=6, it is published and
Data are on ZENODO.
If you need just  Ti and Cr I can probably get them in CHIANTI format to you next month.  They would not have the Satellite lines though.   If you or anyone is really meaning to help
That would be useful as there is tons of data we produced but did not make it into CHIANTI
For lack of resources.  It took nearly two years to get the v.11...    Get in touch.

Giulio

Hello Gulio

That is great news and id be happy to help if i can.

I will have time and some computing resources plus some long term astrophysical plasma applications experience.  I had two grant proposals fall through recently, but on the up side i have more time now.

So if you have data that needs curation/processing/formattimg/testing  i do know the CHIANTI files well since long ago i did a tiny potassium IV contribution:). Im now able to commit time with my greater free agency now im not able to do lectures. I just teach a couple of phd students and am goimg to help with a postdoc who may prove useful too.

I have two decent hp workstations at home and  a small 120 cpu cluster at work,  and 100+ TB of raid and cloud storage just for me — from earlier grants.

You do need to know that i have become wheelchair and sometimes bed bound with Stiff Person Syndrome plus ( googke john hopkins university stiff petson syndrome or the NORD rare disease database). and one week in 3 i am very disabled and go to hospital but am good in the two weeks after that, before the cycle repeats and i can still have bad days and  even  seizures any time - so i want to make the most of my good days.

Im working on astrophysical SNR shocks atm and putting C11 in my MAPPINGS VI code then writing up a new replacement work on astrophysical cooling for cooling flows as well as shocks, plus a  new turbulent hot/cold mixing layer coolimg.  The super metal rich fast shock into stellar ejects was the basis of my grant proposals witj Dr Ivo Seitzenzal but i still want to do it anyway.

But really, ill also be very honoured to help CHIANTI keep going just working on the librarianship of file integrity , processing and useful completeness.  It is a marvellous and so sadly under funded foundation work.  I have some resources to contribute, and owe you and your team a lot of publications!

Perhaps we could find a time to meet on video? Zoom for example.

Sincerely
Ralph
