Wow! It has been two full weeks since the STS seminar at YWAM Chiang Rai Base. I can honestly say that God did great things. We saw Thai learners deeply engaging with the word of God, English learners deeply impacted by real life applications, and ESL learners understanding and telling stories that we would have previously said were way beyond their levels. It was truly a blessing to have this seminar and many participants have already started using it in their personal lives and ministries in the two weeks since attending.
Personally, I (Matthew Thompson) really enjoyed hearing stories and seeing the observations and applications brought out by the participants. I got to practice learning stories, telling them, and leading discussion in both a half hour small group and a five minute one on one. My favorite thing of all, though, was hearing the stories from the Thais and seeing them engage in it and share personal applications. David, who uses storying in house church planting in Isaan, showed me a glimpse of how storying can be used for multiplying discipleship among the Thais. It isn’t just a dream that orality can impact the Thai people and be used by them to impact others, it is actually happening. I look forward to seeing more and more of this in the future.
On the topic of the future, there has been talk of a full 5 day storying workshop at the YWAM Chiang Rai Base November 5-9. Anyone interested?
