Hello from Phnom Penh, Cambodia!

Hope all of you in the Chiang Mai Orality Network are all doing well! I wanted to share an upcoming opportunity next month in Phnom Penh for an "Intro to Orality" mini-workshop. Please feel free to pass these details (see below) along to your contacts and colleagues in Cambodia.

Blessings,
Rachel Hurley
Coordinator for the Orality Network of Cambodia

Interested in Orality? Orality refers to a reliance upon or preference for learning and communicating through non-written means (spoken word, various art forms and cultural traditions, media, hands-on experiential learning, etc). Oral learners come from varying levels of education, culture and backgrounds. The same God Who created us in His image used oral approaches and methods to communicate with us even from the beginning. Incorporating oral approaches into our work is one way that we can give honor to oral learners and their cultures- it is a way we can follow God’s example through encouraging local people to utilize oral and creative expression both in development and discipleship.

Want to learn more? Come join the Orality Network of Cambodia's “Intro to Orality” meeting on Friday, 18 August from 8:00am-12:00pm at International Christian Assembly. To RSVP please email: oralitynetworkofcambodia@gmail.com no later than the 4th of August. Believers from all cultures are welcome. The meeting will be held in English; only 15 slots remaining! Cost: $5 per person, includes a light coffee and snack.

Hi, Mi Hwa (and the Chiang Mai Orality Network)!

So great to hear from you! The Intro to Orality mini workshop went very well, thank you for asking. :) We were able to cover quite a lot of introductory material for newcomers and several people have now joined our network to continue supporting each other. Something we have recently done which has really increased the quality and impact of our network was to designate 1-2 people as point persons for each of the 7 Gateways to Orality who already work in those areas. This way we have a strong and passionate, well-equipped point person team and the meetings/network activities are no longer dependent on one person's availability. One person still coordinates the logistics of the network but the point person team really helps to steer our quarterly general network meetings and can share information to our Google Group about upcoming trainings, articles, etc related to their gateway. A key component is that we have a married couple, devoted in prayer, who continually lift us up. During the Intro to Orality meeting they had a break out station for prayer- whenever there wasn't a participant they prayed for the others in the various breakout stations. We also have a quarterly Skype call with the point persons who are available to plan for general meetings together. It has been brilliant to pool our strengths together and very encouraging to see people more intentionally working together across organizations in a way that also expands our networking capabilities both among Cambodians and expats.

I'm leaving now for the US for a long home assignment so I will pass along my coordinator responsibilities for the network to the point person team after this email. Please pray for the Orality Network of Cambodia as God brings us to mind.

Blessings,
Rachel
