St. Francis Church 150th Anniversary Mass

The parishioners of St. Francis of Assisi Church will be holding a
150th anniversary celebration mass this Sunday, November 30, 2003 at
9:45AM. The church is located on Roosevelt Rd., one half block west
of Halsted St. in Chicago's old Maxwell Street neighborhood. Cardinal
Francis George will be there. This was his family's church when the
neighborhood was heavily German.

This historic church was saved a few years ago by courageous members
who occupied the church in 1996, interrupting a demolition in progress
in the middle of winter. "Remember St. Francis" has become a battle
cry for those trying to save their neighborhood landmarks and
institutions.

There will be good Mexican music and food at this event. All are
welcome.
