My girlfriend has a primeco phone. . . They are pretty clear sounding, but
your calls get dropped like nothing. It is really annoying to have a call
dropped 2-3 times in a conversation. Also, their service area isn't all
that great. You will have to deal with that no-service beep very often,
unless you get the dual mode pcs/cellular model.

I have had just several different cellphone services. Primeco rated at the
bottom as I was constantly getting busy signals and dropped calls. I am
currently with ATT and getting ready to dump them as I frequently get the
message that "System is Busy".

If you find a good service then I would enjoy hearing about it.

No real surprise here, but PrimeCo isn't any better or worse than
any of the rest of them.

The dropped calls are a combination of physics and politics.

The physics:
Hardly anyone is buying vehicle mounted phones anymore, which
moves the antenna to inside your RF shield (car). Now your
signal is weak. Weaker signals mean you need to be closer to
the cell site for the thing to work.

The politics:
Closer to the cell site means you need more cell sites.
But cell sites have antennas sticking up and radiate RF,
and the NIMBY * principle kicks in.

You can't have it both ways. Take your pick: More cell
cites or more dropped calls.

I've been with Cell One for a number of years and have had problems with "call
follow" when I changed my long distance company, but otherwise I've had
relatively few problems. Certainly none with basic dialtone access.

I use 300-1200 minutes a month.

The service may not be cheap, but it's there.

One new twist. I was on I-39 travelling southbound (that's west of DeKalb, south
of Rockford) and discovered that I wasn't roaming... made a few calls. They were
clear and static free. Cell One must have bought up the previous independant
carrier 'cause the area east of DeKalb on Illinois 38 used to have "roam"
status.

My $.02
