let me just say that i'm glad that steely dan released a new album
after 20 years. anyway, i really liked the following lines from the
song "cousin dupree":

i said babe with my boyish charm and good looks
how can you stand it for one more day
she said maybe its the skeevy look in your eyes
or that your mind has turned to applesauce
the dreary architectrue of your soul
i said - but what is it exactly turns you off?

...sounds like the kind of thing that i would have said.

no wonder i've liked these guys for the past 25 years. :-)

be optimistic! you can win,
as long as you keep, your head to the sky
-the sounds of blackness

Ha! You are on my side. I also think this word is "skeevy" but I
saw it transcribed as "steamy" on a Steely Dan website. I wrote to
the author, explaining the etymology of "skeevy" which I had gotten
from the Dictionary of Slang website -- it was popular in Brooklyn
and thereabouts in the fifties and sixties -- need I say more? But
the skeevy dude did not condescend to reply.

Me too. It's a nice album.
