Can anyone recommend good take-out or delivery Chinese and Thai places
in the Jefferson Park area? We moved here last summer and have not been
able to find anything passable.

Thanks in advance,

Stacy

Stacy,

Not sure if this is exactly Jefferson Park, but I have always enjoyed
Thai Aree on Milwaukee just south of Addison. Excellent food, low
prices and friendly service. Be forewarned that when they ask you how
hot you would like your food anything above medium is quite hot. Not
sure about delivery, but I am sure you are able to order and then pick
up.

As far as Chinese goes the only Chinese restaurant that I have been to
in Jefferson Park was chosen by my sister in-law who thinks adding
black pepper to mac and cheese is a real culinary adventure and it was
so bad that I won't even mention the name.

For great Chinese food get in the car and drive to my favorite, Three
Happiness in Chinatown, the small one across from the firehouse, not
the large one on the corner. Excellent seafood, noodles dishes and
sand pots.

Enjoy,
Gary

Sorry to follow up on my own post but I though of a Chinese restaurant
in Jefferson Park that might fit the bill. At least I think it is
Jefferson Park, I am not exactly sure where Jefferson Park is
(Milwaukee/Montorse?) you might want to post cross-streets.

Great Sea is a Chinese restaurant run by Koreans and has Chinese,
Korean influenced Chinese and some Korean dishes. To be honest I have
been going there on occasion for years and have never ordered anything
Chinese, but I have seen them served and they look good.

To me Great Sea is a one dish restaurant and I, and most all of their
customers, order the fried chicken with sauce. The version at Great
Sea is plump, crispy frenched chicken wing drumetts served in an oily
scallion, chili sauce with slightly sweet undertones. The fried
chicken with sauce tastes a lot better than my description reads and
is their version of a popular Korean snack that can be found at most
Korean groceries.

I also like the sauteed cuttle fish with hot sauce and the cha chiang
mein. Cha chiang mein is homemade noodles with a thick, slightly sweet
black bean sauce, very nice. The hot bean curd is good also.

Great Sea in keeping with its Korean roots serves daikon radish kim
chee and also an interesting side dish of cut sweet onion with a very
rich dark bean paste for dipping the onion into.

Enjoy,
Gary

Just to point out that the type of Chinese restaurant you described below is
officially Beijing-style, or Mandarin-style Chinese restaurant. However, most
of them tend to be the Korean influenced versions. So more technically it
should be categorized as Korean-Mandarin-Chinese food. Similarly to how most
of the chop-suey places can be categorized as American-Cantonese-Chinese food.

Besides Great Sea, there's a couple of more of these Mandarin-styled Chinese
restaurants on Lawrence. Some more scattered north of Chicago, and if you're
in Schaumburg, two that come to mind would be Ming's on Algonquin and Yu's on
Golf.
