I've been hearing these radio ads for Binny's beverage depot and their
return policy made me laugh. According to the ad you can return any
unopened item no questions asked -- and I assume no restocking fee.
What kind of person returns a bottle of booze or a case of beer? I also
imagined a Kerman house party where he buys a 6 pack of beer for his
guests and they only drink three beers so he tries to return the other
three. That's against Binny's policy!

Perhaps this return policy is for recovering alcoholics where they can
buy a bottle of booze, stare at the bottle all night without opening it,
and then returning it the next day.

The "party overstock" idea makes sense to me. Let's say you buy a case
of wine, or two bottles of many sorts of hard liquor, but your guests
bring extra booze for everyone to drink, or no one feels like tequila.

The fuck is the problem with just chucking the excess booze into the liquor
cabinet? It's not like tequila goes bad, cheapass.

Maybe I don't drink tequila, and none of my friends drink Cuervo any
more.

Oh, I forgot, you're at that end stage of life where absofuckinglutely
nobody who doesn't already put up with you will want to start, so of course
there's no expectations that a new friend or acquaintance who might love
tequila would drop in.

Or maybe you just want to be a contrarian cocksucker. Bet it's a bit of
both, actually.

Hey, aren't you the guy who never drinks in the house? Do you still
maintain a stash for parties?

Dude, these are all hypotheticals, but yes, I could see one use for
being able to return unopened booze.

My wife and I just went out with our younger circle of friends: Korean
bbq plus karaoke. They had never heard Paperback Writer before. They
are at the age where the married ones are having babies.

I'm not the only person who lives in the house, dumbass.

And if you receive excess bottles at a party or for a party, why yes, just
keep it around, bring it to the next party you're invited to, whatever.
Running back to Binny's to return a bottle of scotch just seems cheap as
hell.

So you have to seek out completely new culture-shocked immigrants from
Asia to make friends. Wonderful.

the only time I see this making sense is if you're throwing a truly enormous
party (like a wedding reception or something) where your leftovers could
conceivably be numerous bottles.

if'n you're an alky, you probably shouldn't be hosting said party. no, i
was more thinking with a really big shindig you might be buying a case of
everything not know what'll go fast. so, if you end up with half a case of
vodka because everyone was drinking whiskey and a half a case is like a 10
year supply in your house, then maybe you'd return some.

They claim in their ads that they'll take returns on unopened packages.
If you buy a case of whatever the case is the package and once opened
cannot be returned. If you buy on a per bottle basis, the package is
the bottle so you can return those unopened bottles.

This is nuts.

What's the issue with having extra bottles of booze laying around?

Fer chrissakes, I've probably got 12 bottles at any given point that
have been been brought and not taken. Mixers are gold.

Wow. I've never heard of a wedding reception in which the amount of
alchohol the guests will consume has been overestimated.

Possible. People in Detroit used to drive all the way to Chicago to
buy booze for weddings, because the state of Michigan regulated prices
all over the state. The store on Rte 83 in Willowbrook was a popular
destination. You don't want to run out (see, Wedding Feast at Cana) so
they might have overbought.
