 HELP PASS THE DREAM ACT!!!

Dear Friends,

The DREAM ACT is close to becoming a reality, and you can help. 

Senator Majority Leader Harry Reid recently stated that he plans to include the DREAM Act in the Department of Defense Authorization bill, which is scheduled for a vote next week.

If passed, this legislation would allow hundreds of thousands of undocumented youth a clear path to citizenship .

Please read this message from the New York Immigration Coalition, which is copied below:

In a matter of days, the DREAM could become real.

After tentative fits and starts and backtracking, our leaders in Congress are taking real action to fix our broken immigration system:

• Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid will include the DREAM Act in the Department of Defense authorization bill, for a vote next week! 
• Our own congresswoman Nydia Velazquez continued her strong leadership on immigration reform and, along with Rep. Gutierrez and Sen. Menendez, met with the President today to seek a moratorium on deportations. 
• And just yesterday, President Obama said, “Now, the Senate is going to have a chance to do the right thing … when Senator Reid brings the DREAM Act to the floor.  … I will do whatever it takes to support the Congressional Hispanic Caucus’ efforts to pass this bill so that I can sign it into law on behalf of students seeking a college education and those who wish to serve in our country’s uniform.  It’s the right thing to do.  We should get it done.” 

  The President also said:

“We can’t keep kicking this challenge down the road…

If we appeal to the American people’s hopes over their fears, we’ll get this done.”

So let’s do what we have to do to make sure that the President and our leaders on Capitol Hill are moved by our hopes to make DREAM happen, and open the door for further reforms down the road.

We have a week to get sixty votes lined up to ensure DREAM Act’s passage.   But we won’t even get to the vote if Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell has his way; he’s vowed to stop it.

CALL Sen. McConnell  at 202-224-2541 and tell him to stop the partisan game-playing and pass the DREAM Act!

We need every one of you to help make this happen.  If we all step up to the plate and leverage this moment for all its potential, our leaders in DC will know that they have no choice but to embrace this moment and pass the DREAM Act.
