Hi There!
My name is Nick and my boss (Mr. Hasan) has a 1959 Impala convertible
that he is currently restoring in India. According to him, "the idots
working on it lost the tags and badges", as in the VIN plate and other
identifying tags. Therefore, I have been charged with the task of
helping him track down the information that has been lost, primarily
the VIN.
A little background, the car was special ordered new in 1959, but the
original purchaser had problems with the customs department in India,
where it was ultimately seized. It was then purchased by one of the
more popular actors in India at the time at the customs auction. A
couple years after that, it was given as a gift to a woman who was a
popular Indian actress at the time. Mr. Hasan's father purchased the
car from her in 1966 and it has been in his family ever since.
The engine number is F0205AE, which I have been able to decipher as
meaning that the engine was built at the Flint plant on 2/5/59 and is
outfitted with the 235 6-cylinder with a heavy duty clutch. I don't
know if that helps with tracking the VIN.
Also, is there somewhere elso on the vehicle where the VIN and/or
Chassis numbers are stamped into the metal?
Thank you for any assistance or guidance that you can provide.
Best Regards,
Nick R.
