Good evening neighbors,

Happy Women's History Month!

Come to the work session on Thursday and learn more about A Cat's Life Rescue and the work they would like to do in Cheverly to assist with the feral cat population!

Budget season is upon us, and over the next 4-6 weeks, we will be locked in on focusing on the budget. You may recall where we were last year during budget season but click here for a refresher.

Recently, the Town has undergone a Salary analysis to examine salaries townwide to ensure that Cheverly is not just a great place to live but also a great place to work and that we remain competitive with comparable towns around us. While the analysis hasn't been finalized yet, in our last conversation about it, we learned that the Town of Cheverly has employees who are not making a living wage and receiving government assistance. You should be shocked by that because I was. All this is to say that as we gear up for the budget season, there will be many conversations, meetings, and factors that affect our budget because we all know our budget reflects our values as a town.

Redistricting Hearing and First Reader:

following the results of the 2020 census, the boundary lines for wards in Cheverly need to be adjusted slightly, as seen in the Agenda Packet.  This redistricting will affect Ward 6 currently; how the wards are created cuts through "census blocks," which is not the advised way to create boundaries.

Forest Road from 6505 - 6459 Odd will become Ward 6, and the entire block of Woodway and Hillside on the Oddside will become Ward 6. If you follow the dark black outline, that will be the Ward 6 changes.

The Interim Environmental Task force has been put on hold as mediation for the issue of whether the Green Infrastructure Committee, an advisory town body created by a town resolution, would like to remain as a town advisory body or if they want to become an advocacy group that is not affiliated with the town. I suggested this interim group because we have been without a green team since July 2023, and there are concrete and cement batching plants, other development, Hospital Hill, etc, happening all around us, and we can not continue to be beholden to a group that refuses to work with the Mayor and abide by Maryland state law as required for town advisory bodies. For now, we will see how mediation goes, but either way, the Town is always looking for neighbors interested in volunteering their time to serve. So, if you are interested, let me know, and I will make sure you are connected to whatever group is decided upon mediation.
  • Women's History Month Proclamation - Thanks CM Bryner!
  • Ceasefire Resolution
Hospital Hill - There was a presentation on March 13, and you can find the presentation on the Cheverly Website, but it is also linked below:
Once the survey results are wrapped up, be on the lookout for a community meeting to discuss!

Traffic Safety and Speed Cameras
  • I hope you noted the speed cameras on 202. They have slowed people down, so they are doing their job, and they are capturing violators and sending them some snail mail to let them know they have been captured on camera.
  • Note that our officers ARE enforcing traffic laws in town. STOP at stop signs . Slow down.
Free Pepco Trees!
  • Pepco is giving away trees to customers on a first-come, first-served basis. More information here

There is a new regional manager for CSA as Tony has moved on from his position to a different company. I want to share a few words he left in his last email: "For the last year and a half, we have worked side by side, fostering initiatives that have brought about tangible improvements in the lives or our community members. Our joint endeavors, characterized by mutual respect, dedication, and a shared vision for progress, have not only achieved great outcomes but have also sown the seeds of ensuring positive change.
As I move forward, I am comforted by the knowledge that our collective efforts have laid a strong foundation for the future."
Council Member Garces and I will continue to work hand in hand with the management at CSA and we will continue to advocate for our residents and make sure that the relationship builds and we create the community there that we can all be proud of.

Bystander Intervention and Basketball Event: Thanks to Yvonne White, Youth Coordinator, & VineCorps & Good Works, a group of our young teens received training on what to do in an emergency while having fun, playing basketball, and having pizza. It was a great event and I look forward to more events in the future.
