I’ll be driving around TONIGHT after 8:30PM for the HOLIDAY DECORATION COMPETITION so please be plugged in and have your decorations ready for the contest!
Happy Holidays. We are in full holiday mode here in town and celebrated the Cheverly Tree Lighting and lighting up the Yule Logs with the Town’s Sharing & Caring event last Friday. After the dusting of snow, it really felt like a winter holiday with the ground still frozen and the weather so cold, but the hot cocoa and festive energy made it a great event.
There are even more festive fun activities planned, so please take a look below and I hope you and/or your family will participate.
MUSIC NOISE
I have heard the awful music too the past several weekends, seemingly coming from a restaurant near the Cheverly metro. HOWEVER, I went to investigate on my own on Friday night and noticed it was actually coming from a nearby street near the industrial area. As I approached the 2400 Beaver Road area, I noticed several vehicles at the end of the cul de sac blasting their music.
I immediately reached out to our PD and PGPD District 3 leadership to let them know that the music that was being heard from Landover Hills, throughout Cheverly and beyond was coming from this car meet up.
Please continue to call 911 if you hear it and at minimum use the online form to report.
ANNEXATION
There was a public hearing on the annexation ordinance draft which was to kick off the discourse around the topic of annexing hospital hill. Nothing has been officially introduced and I strongly recommend that before any such ordinance is officially on the table, that there is extensive dialogue with our county counterparts as well as state counterparts to garner their support before any official process begins. For me, what Bladensburg did is a lesson to all municipalities that a robust conversation with ALL stakeholders must happen before starting any official process.
WORK SESSION:
Worksession:
FY25 Audit - The town received a good report stating that our audit is clean and we are ending the year in a good spot.
Pepco – Our friendly neighborhood PEPCO representative “Ronnie” (Veronica) stopped through our meeting to provide some important information regarding outages. Please be sure to try to obtain the following information prior to reporting. Also note you can report online as well using a map that would have relevant information. Feel free to reach out to Ronnie, should you have any questions or concerns : Veronic...@exeloncorp.com

WSSC Task order 201 update –Thomas Johnson and team provided updates on Work Order 201 which is much of the work being done on the east side of town. You’ll note the uneven roads etc because the work is not complete. The current timeline is as follows:
Repavement and finishing for priority streets by spring 2026 and non-priority streets completed by May 2026.
On January 6th, there will be a discussion of the water main replacement near and through ward 6 at 6:30 PM that I have requested for the community. Please be on the look out for more information.
Cheverly Day – Joni Beall from CHV Day Committee came to update on the plans for the big 95th Anniversary Cheverly Day events. The goal is to do a CHEVERLY WEEK and end it with the parade and Cheverly Day. If you are interested in volunteering or being part of the fun, please note the email for next year’s festivities. Keller Construction - We don’t seem to get good news from Keller which is very frustrating. The timeline keeps shifting but we are hoping for a January opening.
Other Updates –
Boyd Park - The bathrooms have been winterized. We are currently waiting on PEPCO for the electricity
New Gym Floors are almost fully installed. During the replacement, the contractors noted a substance that they felt needed to be analyzed. I appreciate the Town’s quick response to take it very seriously and am grateful that the examination showed it was not anything of concern. While slightly delayed, I know the Town has worked hard to make the inconvenience as minimal as possible.
Shop with a cop was a success!
Update by CM Fry & Garces Regarding Cheverly Station Apartments – Cameras are up and running!
Thanks to former Mayor Kayce for the Toy Distribution with Santa and Mrs. Claus and the assistance from CSA and their elves to make it a successful event. There was a voter registration that occurred in conjunction that yielded many neighbors being registered!
