Happy New Year neighbors!
I hope that everyone was able to ring in the new year safely! I want to thank everyone who participated in putting up their decorative holiday lights this year. There were more houses this year than ever before, and several homes have stepped up their game as well. I know that because of the wind, some homes did not have their blow-ups plugged in, so I may have missed you, but I truly love the participation. Thank you all for participating!
It is January 1, 2024 and there is a new county law that takes effect starting today. CB-032-2023 - Better Bag Bill Effective January 1, 2024, Prince George’s County prohibits all retail establishments from providing plastic carryout bags to shoppers and, with certain exceptions*, shall charge at least 10 cents for each paper carryout or reusable bag provided to a customer.

January has us back to our regular scheduled town meetings (2nd and 4th Thursday of the month), and the Town Council will be doing a leadership retreat which we do every term. There will also be a Hospital Hill community meeting in January.
December's Town Meeting was short but here are just a couple of highlights: we went over the 2nd reader of the Charter Amendment - CAR 1-23 – regarding lowering the voting age to 16 years old and also the first reader of the Council Compensation Schedule -Ordinance – 2023-04 – to update the compensation schedule for the Mayor & Council. (Council Compensation Schedule is about how the council is paid. To simplify things for our accounting, this schedule allows the Town Council to be paid bi-weekly similar to employees instead of quarterly.)
Please see the attached January Newsletter (
English and
Spanish) from the town.
I hope everyone has a wonderful 2024 and stay tuned for more updates in the new year!
